The publisher didn’t seem happy and neither were fans of the games. “Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition,” Bethesda announced in a barbed statement. In September mod support for Fallout 4 on PS4 was canned, and Skyrim: Special Edition’s support fell alongside it. Sony and Bethesda weren’t seeing eye to eye on mods and it was hurting the game buying public. The Xbox One enjoyed over 4000 mods (at the time of writing). It wasn’t just a token gesture either, with new assets being addable to the console versions to allow for some proper mods that completely change the look of the game or add new objects. This announcement comes after disappointment in September when Bethesda told fans that mods would not be coming to the PS4 due to restrictions from Sony.When Bethesda announced that mod support was coming to Fallout 4 on consoles as well as PC it seemed as though a new world was going to open up to those of us who prefer not to dabble with PC gaming. “We and Sony have worked hard to make this possible,” the announcement said. Bethesda said that they will update Fallout 4 with mods and PS4 pro after work on Skyrim is completed. Skyrim Special Edition will receive mods and will run native 4K rendering on the PS4 Pro upon its release on October 28. But players will be able to use any assets that come with the game. Mods on PS4 will allow players to create custom content by using Bethesda’s Creation Kit available at their site, however they won’t be able to use external assets with the mods. “Modding has been an important part of our games for over 10 years, and we hope to do even more in the coming year for all our players, regardless of platform.” “We are excited to finally get modding to our PlayStation fans who have supported us for so long,” the announcement said.
Additionally both games will be supported on the PlayStation 4 Pro when it releases. Bethesda announced on its website that mods for Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition are coming to PlayStation 4.
